Trading card grading isn't just a sports thing. Pokémon is the most-graded TCG in the world, Magic has the deepest secondary market of any game, Yu-Gi-Oh! vintage is quietly hitting auction records, and Lorcana is the fastest-growing TCG since Pokémon's 2020 boom. If you collect any of them, the grading math is the same as sports: raw price + grading fee vs. the PSA 10 (or BGS 9.5, or CGC 10) comp after fees.
Pokémon — modern alt arts and 151 SIRs
The best current PSA 10 spreads live in the Sword & Shield alt art era and Scarlet & Violet 151. Centering is the #1 killer for vintage WOTC — the PSA 10 rate on Base Set Charizard is under 5%, so only grade clean copies. Modern alt arts like Umbreon VMAX Alt Art (Evolving Skies) print more predictably and grade at higher rates.

Magic: The Gathering — Reserved List and Modern chase
MTG collectors overwhelmingly favor BGS 9.5 for vintage Reserved List (Black Lotus, Moxen, dual lands). PSA is gaining ground on modern. The One Ring from Lord of the Rings and Modern Horizons 2/3 mythics (Ragavan, Fetchlands) are the current grading play. Sleeve damage on the black border is the biggest 9.5-vs-10 differentiator — inspect corners under strong light before submitting.
Yu-Gi-Oh! — 1st Edition LOB and secret rares
Yu-Gi-Oh! is a PSA-first market. Vintage 1st Edition LOB and MRD are notoriously off-center — PSA 10 rates on 1st Edition Blue-Eyes are under 3%, but the payoff is massive when you hit. Modern secret rares of meta staples (Ash Blossom, Maxx C, Accesscode Talker) show consistent PSA 10 premiums on early prints.
Lorcana — Enchanted rares across every set
Lorcana is still early. First Chapter Enchanteds (Elsa Spirit of Winter, Mickey Brave Little Tailor, Stitch Rock Star) have the widest spreads and the smallest print runs. Later sets (Rise of the Floodborn, Into the Inklands, Ursula's Return) grade at higher rates but with tighter margins. Pull straight from pack to sleeve — dark textured borders show edge wear instantly.
